Obama Election Night

Election night 11/04/08 - The night Barack Obama was elected our President of the United States. I decided to drive around Oakland, CA. and project a custom gobo we had made. I strapped a lighting fixture and a generator to the roof of my car and off we went. It was an unforgettable evening and it seemed to make people and crowds dance in the streets. People walked blocks to see the source & take pictures.

Yes - We are projecting a gobo template. It is Barack Obama. It is of great joy that we have the means to project this on the building next to our shop. Thanks to Paul Greyson for making such a sweet gobo.

Audio Art

I was going to see some live music the other night for a friends birthday. I parked my car up the street and got out a block from the place I was going. As I was walking, I passed this audio art installation on Telegraph Ave. near Downtown Oakland. The artist did an amazing job and it just surprised me as I was walking down the street. It was out of place but really it wasn't. It was perfect. Each of the speakers had an audio source coming through them as they were stuck to the inside of the window. There was also another audio sculpture on the other side of the door way. I will have to go back and find out more.

Kaura

I had the honor and pleasure of mixing front-of-house for my friend's band, Kaura, at the DNA Lounge Thursday night. Impossible to categorize, all I can say is that you should check them out. Infusing Gamelan bells, tabla, dulcimer as well as electronic and rock elements make for a truly unique experience. Thanks to all who came to support local music.

The Crucible

I have been working a lot lately with an Industrial Arts School in Oakland, CA. called The Crucible. For the last couple of years we have done the Fire Arts Festival in July. The Fire Ballet, this April 9th. - 12th. & 16th. - 19th. The Crucible is producing Firebird “L'oiseau de feu”, and I just produced the lighting for Hot Couture. This years fashion show. My company reFRACTion has been producing all the sound and lighting for their events since 2006. They are an awesome bunch of people. The creativity that comes from that place is unparelleled.

Watermark Tower SF

I wanted to post a pic of the job we recently did for the Grand Opening of the Watermark Tower Building in San Francisco. This is the first building you see from the Bay Bridge as you enter SF on the left. The event was supposed to be on the 4th Floor Terrace in a clear topped tent, however due to downpour and high wind advisory we had to move the party into the parking garage. The guests were amazed!
